The children have had a great time using the Bee Bots in ICT and numeracy sessions. They have enjoyed being able to programme the toys. The children enjoyed their trip to Knowlands Wood. The day after the trip, the children had to lots to talk about, and write about in our literacy lesson on Friday.

This week the children have developed their understanding of storytelling. We have been looking at how traditional stories each have a problem which has to be resolved by the characters. In maths we have been recapping counting in twos, fives and tens. We have also been solving number problems. In Science we have been finding out about healthy eating. In History we have been comparing our homes with Victorian homes.

They have developed their understanding of characters, and have investigated settings and events. In Geography we have started to compare two contrasting cities – Belfast and Mexico City. We have looked at special buildings in these cities, and have learnt about special foods. In RE, we have taken a virtual tour of a church. The children have started to identify features that they will find in a church.

The children had great fun in PE this week. We have been focusing on dance this term; the children started to use additional creative props in their dance routines. They had the opportunity to use scarves, and had fun swirling them around. In music, the children have been exploring how we use different instruments; and have been developing an understanding of rhythm.

27th April 2009

This week, we have been continuing with our exploration into ‘The Great Fire of London’. The children have enjoyed creating scenes from history. We have been thinking about how people would have felt when they saw the fire. The children have started to create information books about the event. We have been developing problem solving skills in relation to addition and subtraction; and have been developing the children’s knowledge of number bonds. We carried an exciting investigation about the forces of push and pull. The children explored how they could move cars; and they found out how cars move on smooth and rough surfaces. We have also been developing our travel agents role play area; and been sharing our experiences of places we have visited.

In literacy, we have been exploring poetry. We have looked at nursery rhymes, and skipping rhymes.
The children enjoyed performing their sharing assembly, and we all hoped you enjoyed watching it.

In literacy we started to write diaries, to record the growth of our class plants. We also labelled parts of a plant. In numeracy we have been developing our problem solving skills through a range of class activities. These are some of the learning activities we have been doing this week.
